Activity 4 (Blog [and Twitter]Reflections)

Briefly reflect on lessons learnt from this practical:

a.    Do you think it is more effective to search the invisible web (databases) than using search engines, meta-search or subject directories? Why?

Invisible web like TP library is effective on searching books and material in the library. But it is limited, it can not be use to search outside information.

b.    Will you use the invisible web (databases) for research in your own respective Diplomas? Why?

 Yes, my diploma is Aerospace Electronic, there are not so many data related to it, some of them are classified,so for searching further information, I have to use invisible web. In invisible web such as TP library, I am able to find exam paper on CAAS exam paper which can not be found on Google.

Activity 4 – Blog Reflections

Briefly reflect on lessons learnt from this practical by answering questions below :

a.    Were you impressed by google’s search functions/features? Why? 

      Google is a multi-functional search engine, it impressed me on the first time i used it. By choosing different function such as "image""map", we can find any web site we want to visit. Google Scholar is a very special function. In now a day, we usually use internet to search information for our research, Google Scholar give makes it easier .

b.    How do you feel about participation in discussion forum? Is it helpful for your research? Do you feel anxious about talking to others you do not know? 

     Discussion forum is a good platform for people to exchange ideas regardless of time and location, we can add or edit information to refine post. like wikipedia, it has become a place I learn new knowledge.

     I am not afraid of talking to people on forum, cause we don't meet each other. 

Week 5 Self reflection

a. What benefits do you get when using different search facilities to search 

for resources related to your topic?

  Different search facilities give us more choices on shearching different information. For example, if I want to find articles and research on my topic-"development of renewable energy", Google Scholar is a better choice for me, compare to Google, it gives me more specific results.

b. How do you feel about using site feeds in your blog? 

  I felt that site feeds is a function similar to Links .however, they are different. Click on Links, we will directly visit the Websites. When using Site feeds, it only show us the content of the website.  

c. What do you like best about collaborating on Wiki with 

other students who share similar research topic as you? 

  The advantage of Wiki is that we can share our information and edit other people's information if it has error. There are too much informations on Internet, we will not be able to read them one by one by ourselves, so Wiki is a good way to share and congregate information.

week 4 second life

1.What do you like best about this virtual experience which you cannot  get in real-life?

  Personaly, I dont like virtual-life , however, I gain experience in this activity. We can meet someone in thousands of miles away online, it is amazing.

2.Do you have to observe special mannerisms/behaviours/ethics when meeting your new friend

 on Second Life?

  Of course we have to observe ethics . Eventhough it is a virtual world , we are talking to a real person . If we dont care about our words, we will make trouble .

3. Describe the experience you had virtually meeting and sharing about cyourself and your 

research experiences with your new friend from Hong Kong.

  I hadn't used Second Life before this activity , I was lost in the first few minutes. I walked to people and dont know what to do. Finally , a guy talked to me and I answered ,then we start our conversation. Luckily , he is from China mainland . So we decide to talk  by using QQ which is more farmiliar .

  He gave me these answers:

a) I usually buy the air tickets online. Because the the air tickets have the great price fluctuation. In addition, the agency get a large number of commision from the customers. So I profer the online booking tickets which can save lot of money. 
b)The most popluar shopping website in HongKong is eBay which is always using the auction selling methoed. But i never buy any item from that site. I buy the product from taobao website.
In my opinion, many HongKong people joined the auction. This is an exiting progress.
c) Through QQ

Week 3

In week three, We used two search engines ,google and google scholar to search our topic information separately .It was the first time I use google scholar ,I found that I can search articles easily. Compare with Google , I think they have their own strengths. There are more relevant information on google , article pictures and news . For me , I like using Google ,since it has more function.

1. How do you feel about posting your views on the topic posted on Facebook Group Discussion Forum? Can you express your views freely?

We can publise our idea easily on forum without anxiety .Sometimes i feel shy when speaking infront of peaple , when using forum , I am hiding after the screen, no one can see me , it reduce my anxiety.

2. How does this online discussion experience compared with traditional face-to-face in-class discussions?
By using forum online, more people can participate in, there is no limit on time and space , everyone can read other people's ideas and we can share ideas at the same time.

3. Do you find this online activity meaningful? Why?
This online activity is definitely meaningful and interesting , I found that sharing opinions on line is one the most efficient ways. If I have chance , I will try it an othe time.

week2 Activity 2 E-Shopping Spree

If I have $500, I will buy a Camcorder for myself .  Since I like travelling, sometime I need to record video. I already have a camera, but its video function is not good enough . 
I havent gone shopping online before, I heard that shopping online is much cheaper ,  so I decided to try it on Amazon.com -one of the most famous shopping website.Amazon.com started as an online bookstore, but soon it started to sell various of things. It makes shopping easier and more convenient .
Today, I found that shopping online is not so difficult and unreliable, it has its own ways to protect customers' right. Maybe I can buy something online next time .
